One of the most fundamental mistakes we make, or that a human being makes, is to defend ourselves against attacks against us. Our entire society is based on this fact, and everything our society contains: its laws, its beliefs, its culture, its armaments, its ethics, its codes, and even its religions. And this belief that we can defend ourselves against attacks implies two types of illusions: one is that we really believe we can be attacked, and the other is that we can defend ourselves against those attacks.<\/p>\n
The first illusion stems from the belief that we can be attacked, that we are transient beings, that we are changing beings, when precisely the opposite is the truth. The inner self, our essence, is eternal, it exists beyond space and time, it is not subject to any of the ups and downs of this earthly life.<\/p>\n
So, what do we believe can be attacked? Will it be the body? But this concept also represents an illusion for various reasons. Our inner self inhabits a body, and that body is the instrument through which we manifest, but we can never mistake that instrument for our essence. The only value the body has is what we give it. In itself, the body has no inherent value; it is a tool that we manipulate, we use, we control, in order to express ourselves here on Earth.<\/p>\n
If the mind controls the body, and our inner being controls the mind, then if the being is healthy, the body will be healthy. Neither can be attacked because the body itself has no life of its own, only the life we assign to it, and our essence is eternal and immortal.<\/p>\n
The second illusion comes from the belief that we can defend ourselves against an external attack (which is the first illusion). Defense implies that we create a whole series of mechanisms against what might come from outside. But these mechanisms cannot protect that which does not need to be protected. In themselves, these defenses do more to create more obstacles for the free, healthy, and harmonious flow of the internal life energy we possess. Defenses obscure and cloud reality, and the more defenses we have, the more lost we are, and the more shrunken and hidden our essence becomes. Defenses are nothing more than an expression of fear, and fear distorts everything one is. Fear is the product of the past that conditions the present and projects itself into the future, predetermining activities and events to come.<\/p>\n
In itself, the act of defending ourselves against a perceived aggression is to hide ourselves even more, believing that this is the way to control our lives when, precisely, what one is doing is obscuring oneself more. Defending ourselves is letting ourselves be manipulated. Letting ourselves become the product of our fears, our anxiety, our tensions, of all that can transform us into beings we truly are not.<\/p>\n
The more we defend ourselves, the harder it is for our true selves to shine, and the less we experience life as it is. The only thing that truly exists is the present, the now. And in this moment, everything we need to live exists. All the wisdom of the Absolute, the Eternal, the Universal exists in this moment, and defending oneself is blocking that spontaneity, that living of the present moment. Instead of defending ourselves, we must open ourselves up, not alter, not modify, not change who we are based on preconceived notions rooted in fear, but live the moment and allow that wisdom, which is there for us, to flow through us. This wisdom will provide us with information for the development not only of ourselves as human beings but also of the human race, the planet, and the cosmos.<\/p>\n
That being that we believe needs protection and defense doesn't really exist. The body, without value in the sense that it is not the self, doesn't need defense. It only needs to be perceived as something separate from us, as a sacred instrument of the Soul, which must be kept well and healthy, through which we can operate and express our divinity, until it fulfills its function.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
