Project Objective
Implement innovative technologies using clean energy to reduce electrification gaps in isolated rural communities of Elías Piña Province through a participatory model.
Strengthening climate resilience and fostering alternative livelihoods through the sustainable use of ecosystem services in the project intervention areas.
Financing
The Government of the Dominican Republic, through non-profit associations (NPAs), the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development.
Challenges
Diagnose communities with technical viability for implementing innovative micro-projects for rural electrification. Carry out motivation and engagement actions with the population in the project's intervention areas to participate in the program.
Implement pilot renewable energy infrastructure projects with community participation in the selected intervention areas of Elías Piña.
Raise awareness and strengthen communities on the proper use of ecosystem services, the use and management of alternative energies, and water resource management in the selected intervention zones of Elías Piña.
Project Action Axes
SOCIAL
1.1. Identify beneficiaries and define electrification systems to be implemented in a participatory manner within the target communities.
1.2. Socialize and validate the Electrification designs in the intervention communities of Elías Piña.
1.3. Strengthened organizational capacities of community-based NGOs in Elías Piña for the proper use of systems.
INFRASTRUCTURE
2.1. Implement pilot renewable energy infrastructure projects with community participation.
200 people, 52%, are women and young people from the communities
Achievements
Implement the second phase of the electrification system in the Las Yamayas community (includes one micro-system to benefit six families, civil works, and eight individual homes).
Implement electrification systems in the La Peña community (including 4 microsystems to benefit 18 families, civil works, and three individual homes).
Implement an electrification system in the Rincón community (including civil works, 3 micro-systems for 16 families) and five (5) individual families.
Affordable and Clean Energy aims to ensure access to clean and affordable energy, which is key to the development of agriculture, business, communications, education, health care, and transportation.
