Objective of the project

Promote a comprehensive development process for the sustainable improvement of social, economic, and political conditions for the population of the Enriquillo Region, with special attention to women. To achieve the objective, an action plan was launched that included, among other actions:

  • Consolidation of the two APPDS proposals:

              water and environmental sanitation. 

              Sustainable Tourism.

  • Dissemination and monitoring of achievements with the implementation of the APPDS. 
  • Preparation of a final report document with the results of both APPDS.
  • Management and monitoring of designed APPS.
  • Implementation of the designed APPsDS. 
  • Sustainability plan for implemented PPPs.
  • Systematization and backup documentation of all activities carried out to implement the APPDS. 
Population beneficiary

Population of the municipalities benefiting from the improvement and construction of aqueducts, direct beneficiaries of tourism projects, and the entire population in the Enriquillo region indirectly impacted by the improvement of aqueducts and tourism promotion.

Achievements

Establishment of two public-private partnerships for sustainable development (PPPSDs): one in the water and sanitation management sector and another in the sustainable and inclusive tourism sector.

Various actors from the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia were successfully involved, establishing fundamental bases for sustained long-term work, which were formalized through the signing of two agreements, each within its respective alliance.

WATER APPS

Galván aqueduct project in operation, benefitting 947 families.

Projects tendered by INAPA, civil infrastructures that allow access to drinking water in the municipalities of Altamira-Tamayo, Neiba, and Villa Jaragua, Bahoruco.

APPDS TOURISM:

Consolidation of guidelines: Promotion for visitor flow growth, training of sector resources, exchanges of best practices, dialogue-agreements, and empowerment of stakeholders and communities for the development of sustainable and inclusive tourism with support for sector entrepreneurship.

Two international exchanges with the EAES / Sixth Floor to promote the improvement of the quality of the Region's products and design marketing strategies.

Creation of tourism development models in the Espaillat region with their application to the Barahona tourism model.

Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensure availability of water and its sustainable management and sanitation for all.

Partnerships for Goal Achievement: Strengthening the Means of Implementation and Revitalizing the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
