Project objective

Implement innovative technologies with the use of clean energy to reduce electrification gaps in isolated rural communities in the Province of Elías Piña through a participatory model.

Strengthen climate resilience and promote alternative livelihoods through the proper use of ecosystem services in the project intervention areas.

Financing

The Government of the Dominican Republic, through the non-profit associations (ASFL), the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development.

Challenges

Diagnose the communities with technical feasibility for the implementation of innovative micro projects for rural electrification Carry out actions to motivate and encourage the population of the sectors within the scope of the project to participate in the program.

Implement pilot renewable energy infrastructure works with community participation in the selected intervention areas of Elías Piña.

Raise awareness and strengthen communities on the proper use of ecosystem services, the use and management of alternative energies and water resource management in the selected intervention areas of Elías Piña.

Project Main Lines of Action

1.1. Identify the beneficiaries and define the electrification systems to be implemented in a participatory manner in the target communities.

1.2. Socialize and validate the Electrification designs in the intervention communities of Elías Piña.

1.3. Strengthened the Organizational Capacities of community-based CSOs in Elías Piña for the proper use of the systems.

2.1. Implement pilot infrastructure works for renewable energies with community participation.

Beneficiary population

200 people, 52% of whom are women and young people in the communities

Achievements

Implement the second phase of the electrification system in the community of Las Yamayas (includes one micro-system to benefit six families, civil works and eight individual houses).

Implement electrification systems in the La Peña community (includes 4 microsystems to benefit 18 families, civil works and three individual houses).

Implement an electrification system in the Rincón community (including civil works, 3 micro-systems for 16 families) and five (5) individual families.

Sustainable Development Goals

Affordable and non-polluting energy, aims to ensure access to clean and affordable energy, which is key to the development of agriculture, business, communications, education, health and transportation.
